Welcome to the Department of Agriculture, Food & Animal Health in the School of Health and Science at DkIT.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and Animal Health provides high-quality programmes in Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Nursing. Our programmes are embedded in a strong framework of scientific knowledge as well as being practical and industry focused.
We provide students with the skills needed to drive the future of the Agriculture, Agri-Food and Animal Health sectors. Our graduates are innovative, business orientated, knowledgeable, practically and technically skilled and work ready.
Our Agriculture programmes are delivered in collaboration with Teagasc Ballyhaise Agricultural College in Co. Cavan.
Our BSc in Veterinary Nursing is accredited by the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
Our part-time Food programmes were developed in close consultation with industrial partners such as Allied Beef Processors (ABP).
All our students have access to a suite of excellent science and clinical laboratories at DkIT.
Agriculture students also have access to the facilities at Ballyhaise College, including a 220-hectare farm consisting of grassland, diverse woodlands and large herds of beef cattle, dairy and suckler cows, sheep and pigs.
Our veterinary nursing students can access live animal handling opportunities at the County Louth Animal Pound in Dromiskin, Co. Louth, Kells Equestrian Centre in Carlanstown, Co. Meath and the farm in Ballyhaise College, Co. Cavan.
