Course Overview

This 1 semester, 10-credit programme has been developed in collaboration with Teagasc Ballyhaise Agricultural College. This programme is targeted at holders of level 7 qualifications in Agriculture and related areas and it will cover the key in-demand subjects of Herd Health and Agricultural Genetics. 

Upon completion of this course, graduates of this programme will demonstrate:

  • An appreciation of sustainable animal production systems in terms of herd health, biosecurity and genetics, all of which are underpinned by a strong sustainable environment focus with a view to optimising animal health and the associated environment.
  • The ability to apply evolving science and technology through an innovative and adaptable approach to meet current and future challenges in the Agricultural sector.

What makes this course different

Course Delivery and Modules

The course will be delivered via live online lectures on one evening per week and recorded lectures on one evening per week. In addition, students will attend DkIT for Saturday workshops. 

Due to the blended learning delivery within this course, students should have access to a PC / Mac, a headset with a mic, and a broadband internet connection from home, so as to be able to fully participate in the course. Basic IT skills essential

Fees and Funding

The total fee for this course is€700, payable as follows:

  • €200 Accept Offer fee (non-refundable)
  • Balance of €500 payable by 31st October

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for the level 8 major award is a level 7 major award in agriculture/ animal science/ crop science or a cognate area. Graduates of other disciplines will be assessed for entry through the Recognition of Prior Learning process on an individual case-by-case basis. Learn about RPL at DkIT
