Course Overview
This course consists of one 10-credit module which is delivered on a part-time basis over one semester. The course content includes: Common critical care presentations; Appraisal of the critically ill animal; Emergency nursing skills; CPCR; Current practice in veterinary emergency and critical care.

It will also be of value to veterinary nurses who wish to specialise in this area or move to a more senior role within the practice.
Course Delivery and Modules
This module is co-delivered with the full-time BSc in Veterinary Nursing programme so the timetables are interdependent. The programme will be delivered on the DkIT campus over two days per week.
There are 3 hours of lectures each week. There is also a weekly three-hour practical class.
This 10-credit module will cover small animal emergency and critical care for veterinary nurses.
Module Learning Outcome:
- Apply the principles of critical care to a range of common clinical presentations.
- Appraise the critically ill animal.
- Provide emergency and critical nursing care skills.
- Provide effective CPCR as part of a veterinary care team.

Fees and Funding
Course fee is €700 payable in 2 instalments as follows:
- Instalment 1: €200 (non-refundable) is payable to confirm your acceptance of a course place.
- Instalment 2: €500 is payable by the 28th February.

Entry requirements
Applicants must have a minimum of a BSc in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) which is registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirement may be considered for entry using the Institute's Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) procedures. Learn more about RPL at DkIT
