Biography

Dr. Siobhán Jordan is a lecturer and Head of Department of Agriculture, Food and Animal Health in Dundalk Institute of Technology. A graduate of University of Limerick, she was awarded a B.Sc. (Ed) in Biological Sciences and Education (2002) and PhD from the Department of Biological Science (2006).

A study of the composition and composting of lignocellulosic residues and their response to a range of pre-treatments to facilitate bioethanol production. Co-supervised by Dr. Caroline Gilleran.

 

2. Mawuli Dzakpasu (PhD) Project title: Integrated constructed wetlands to treat domestic wastewater. Implications for groundwater. Co-supervised by Dr. Valerie McCarthy and Dr. Miklas Schloz (University of Salford).

 

3. Laura Holland (PhD) Project title: Remediation of acid mine drainage through a constructed wetland: A green house trial.

 

4. Jessica Coyne (PhD) Project title: Characterisation of the biochemical function and biotechnological importance of oxidative enzymes from Ascomycete and Basidiomycete fungi in plant biomass degradation. Co-supervised by Dr. Arjan Van Rossum (DkIT) and Monaghan Biosciences.

  • The passive remediation of mine sites and tailings ponds
  • Soil conditioning, carbon sequestration and aggregation in tillage soils
  • Alternative organic waste management systems with particular emphasis on the agricultural based industries
  • Composting of agricultural residues.
  • Microplastic accumulation in agricultural soils.
