Biography

Ciarán Ryan is a member of the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at Dundalk Institute of Technology, where he teaches on various media & cultural studies and radio production modules across the Department's programmes.

He obtained a PhD from University of Limerick (Mary Immaculate College) in 2015, and has since lectured at Mary Immaculate College, NUI Galway, and University of Limerick. Ciarán has also presented and produced various talk and music shows for a range of commercial, community and public service radio broadcasters, and continues to make radio documentaries.

Current/ of interest research areas: fan cultures/ fandom (popular culture, music, sports); fan and alternative media; popular music studies (in particular DIY/ alternative music cultures); sports media; radio/ podcasting; soundscapes.
