DkIT’s Department of Visual & Human-Centred Computing embarks on new European collaboration
Lecturers from DkIT’s Department of Visual & Human-Centred Computing and from two European partner colleges (VIVES University of Applied Science, Belgium, and University of Montpellier, France) met in DkIT on 20th and 21st April 2023 to organise a new collaboration.

The three colleges will work together over the next three years to deliver three European Union Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme projects. Each of the three projects will focus on a sub-topic within the general topic “Solutions Towards a Healthy and Ageing Society”. The project will be led in the three colleges by Michael Connolly (DkIT), Arne Vandenbussche (VIVES University of Applied Science) and Daran Harris (University of Montpellier)
The first project will take place in DkIT. The virtual part of this project will run from 16th to 20th October. This will consist of online workshops and student teambuilding. The physical part of this project will take place in the DkIT campus. It will run from 31st October to 4th November 2023.
The second and third projects will run in Belgium and France respectively. These two projects will enable students from DkIT’s Department of Visual & Human-Centred Computing to experience Belgium and France.
Each of the three projects will require students to design, develop and produce a working prototype of an augmented reality digital tool that can be used within the topic “Solutions Towards a Healthy and Ageing Society”. Students will also be expected to produce a business plan, including SWOT analysis and initial marketing information.
The students will be formed into international teams in such a way as to ensure that each team contains students from each of the participating colleges. A goal of the three projects is to provide the participating students with valuable interpersonal and communications skills. This will be achieved by getting the students to work in multidisciplinary and multinational teams and by requiring each team to make two different presentations during the intensive project.
