Pharma Lab: What’s in your medicine

Join Chiara in the DkIT Pharma Lab and experience the set-up of a Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory.

During this exciting laboratory you will learn to use a technique called TLC; Thin Layer Chromatography to discover what active ingredients are in a variety of tablets.

This technique will separate out the ingredients through the science of chromatography, and while you won’t see them initially their hidden colours will be revealed through the magic of UV fluorescence technology.

Students will learn good measuring techniques for solids and liquids along with the loading and development of a TLC plate.

Students will also learn how to look at their results to discover what is in the tablets we take for our headaches etc.
