Sanctuary Scholarship Scheme
The Sanctuary Scholarship is designed to support refugees and people seeking protection to begin their studies at DkIT. Below is a clear overview of who is eligible and how the scheme works:
Eligibility
- Applications are accepted from those with one of the following statuses:
- International Protection Applicant
- Leave to Remain Status
- Subsidiary Protection Status
- Refugee Status
- Applicants must be residing in a State-funded Direct Provision / IPAS Centre and this centre must be within commuting distance of DkIT (as assessed by DkIT).
- The applicant must not be subject to a Deportation Order. The scholarship to be withdrawn if it transpires the student is subject to a Deportation Order or was subject to one at the time of application.
- The applicant must have gained a place in DkIT based on results gained in the Irish Leaving Certificate or FET major award level 5 or level 6 award in the year prior to entry to DkIT.
- The applicant must be ineligible for state financial supports such as Frees Fees or SUSI at commencement of the course.
- Those who already hold a third level qualification are not eligible to apply for a Sanctuary Scholarship.
- A scoring mechanism will decide the recipient of the scholarship in the event that more than one eligible applicant applies in any given year.
What the Scholarship Covers
- The Sanctuary Scholarship provides a full waiver of tuition fees for your first year of study at DkIT.
- Support for subsequent years may be considered, depending on individual circumstances and subject to review by DkIT.
Application Timeline and Process
- One Sanctuary Scholarship to be awarded per year
- Applications open on 1st May and close five days after that year’s Round 1 acceptances date
- A scoring mechanism will decide the recipient of the scholarship in the event that more than one eligible applicant applies in any given year.
