DkIT Computing Students complete an Erasmus+ Intensive Project at IUT Lens, France
Ten students from Year 2 of the BSc (Hons) in Computing in Software Development travelled to IUT Lens in northern France to participate in an Erasmus Blended Intensive Project during the week from 2nd to 7th March 2025.

The DkIT students worked with students from Erasmus partner universities in France, Portugal and Poland. The students from the different participating colleges were assigned to teams in a way that ensured a spread of students from each college across the different teams.
Prior to travelling to France, the students took part in virtual classes as preparation for this project. This meant the students could hit the ground running when the physical project began, which resulted in the students being very productive during their entire week in France.
The students were tasked with creating a web app. The DkIT students got to use their web development, full-stack, and database programming skills. Some of the other students on the project were studying on a web design programme, which focused on the design rather than the coding side of a web app. This provided both the technical and design students their first opportunity to work in a cross-disciplinary team. The students particularly liked this aspect of the project, as it reflects how real-world companies work. In addition to improving their core discipline skills, taking part in international cross-disciplinary projects improves students’ inter-cultural awareness and helps promote their soft skill competencies.
The student teams gave two presentations of their work, once at the beginning of the project and again, on the final day. This helped the students to be able see how much progress they had made on their web app developing during the week.
Along with the hard work, the students were treated to a cultural trip, which included visiting the WWI Vimy memorial, bowling and a soiree.
