Course Overview

This Qualified Certifier (QC) Electrical, Testing and Verification course covers the fundamental knowledge and understanding of Electrical, Testing and Verification. This course is ideal for qualified Electricians, Advanced Testers, or equivalent.   

Successful participants will have the opportunity to obtain a Qualified Certifier (QC) number from the Safety Supervisory Body (Safe Electric) who are licenced by the CRU and who would then register participants and provide a QC number to them. This certification is essential for compliance with the CRU Electrical Safety Supervisory Document (Version 3.0) section C 1.2 Criteria for eligibility and in particular requirements for Qualified Certifier 1.2.7, while carrying out electrical verification and certification tasks in Ireland. 

2 Day Course: 

  • The 2 day course is for experienced or qualified testers only and attendees should have experience in filling out QC paperwork. Attendees should be fully familiar with using a modern multi-function test instruments / meter.

4 Day Course: 

  • The 4 day course is ideal for non-advanced testers and is suitable for all electricians who do not have a QC number.

All classes run in DKIT campus.

This is a single standalone module worth 5 Credits at QQI Level 6. The indicative content is as follows: 

  1. Part 6 Verification and Certification of the Current National Rules for Electrical Installation I.S.10101 (Edition 5.0).
  2. Examination of acquired test results and the impact on the safety of the installation if these results do not conform to required values stipulated in the Current National Rules for Electrical Installation I.S.10101 (Edition 5.0).
  3. Inspection of electrical installations visually and using other senses.
  4. Earthing, Equipotential Bonding and Automatic Disconnection of Supply in fault conditions.
  5. Detailed instruction on the correct procedures for the following Pre-connection tests:
    • Continuity of Protective and Bonding Conductors
    • Continuity of Ring Circuit Conductors
    • Resistance of Protective Conductors
    • Insulation Resistance
    • Protection by Separation of Circuits
    • Erroneous Connections between Phase Conductors
    • Polarity
  6. Detailed instruction on the correct procedures for the following post-connection tests:
    • Confirm effectiveness of automatic disconnection of supply (Line to Earth Fault Loop Impedance)
    • Confirm the effectiveness of additional protection (Verification of Correct earth leakage response times devices) e.g. RCDs & RCBO.
  7. Testing, verifying, recording, reporting and certifying of the installation in compliance with Current National Rules for Electrical Installations NSAI I.S.10101 2020 (Edition 5.0). 

Professional Accreditations

This Qualified Certifier (QC) Electrical, Testing and Verification course is recognised as an accredited course for entry to the Safe Electric Scheme by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities Water and Energy (CRU).

Education Progression

This is a higher education 5-credit module which may be recognised by other higher education providers for possible module exemptions on other programmes.

2-day Course Fee is €400, payable as follows:

You MUST hold a Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in Electrical or equivalent.
