Course Overview
This training course is aimed primarily at potential installers of packaged heat pump systems for the domestic and small commercial sectors. It delivers the fundamental principles for the understanding, specification and installation processes of heat pump systems for the heating and cooling of buildings.
The core elements of this course are to provide participants with an understanding of the technical principles of heat pumps. It is intended that those who undertake this course will have an appreciation of the various players and responsibilities associated with the installation of heat pump systems. This course is aimed primarily at qualified plumbers; however practitioners with a background in related fields of technology and several years relevant experience may also be considered.

This course is intended to provide a fundamental understanding of heat pump systems and thereby expand the opportunities available to practitioners within this field.
Candidates who successfully complete the course are currently recognised as having met part of SEAI’s entry criteria for registration as a Heat Pump Installer with the SEAI.

- Week 1: Tuesday 7th October 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Week 2: Tuesday 14th October 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Week 3: Tuesday 21st October 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Week 4: Tuesday 28th October 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Week 5: Tuesday 4th November – GAP WEEK
- Week 6: Tuesday 11th November 9:30am - 4:30pm
All classes run at DKIT campus, Co Louth.
UNIPIPE SITE COURSE INSTANCE
- Week 1: Tuesday 30th September 9:30am – 4:30pm
- Week 2: Tuesday 7th October 9:30am – 4:30pm
- Week 3: Tuesday 14th October 9:30am – 4:30pm
- Week 4: Tuesday 21st October 9:30am – 4:30pm
- Week 5: Tuesday 28th October 9:30am – 4:30pm
All classes run at Unipipe's Bray facility, Co. Wicklow.
This is a single standalone module worth 5 Credits at QQI Level 6. The indicative content is as follows:
- Environmental and economic arguments for the installation of heat pump systems.
- Relevance of structural insulation, alternative and complimentary energy saving technologies.
- Working principles of heat pump technology.
- Calculation and specification of heat pump systems.
- Heat and hot water distribution methods, integration and control.
- Installation, commissioning and fault finding a heat pump installation.
- Resources and responsibilities associated with heat pump installations.
Education Progression
This is a higher education 5 credit module which may be recognised by other higher education providers for possible module exemptions on other programmes.
Fees and Funding
DKIT on-campus course fee: €600 payable as follows:

Unipipe site course fee: €750 payable as follows:
- Accept Offer Fee: €750 (non-refundable)
Greentech Skillnet Funding available for Dundalk on-campus course
For the Dundalk centre the fee would be €420 if you qualify for Greentech Skillnet support. (i.e. 30% grant aid).
Qualifying criteria:
- Must be self-employed or in employment with an Irish company.

Entry requirements
You MUST hold a Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing or equivalent.
Practitioners with a background in related fields of technology and a number of years relevant experience may also be considered.
