Course Overview

This course develops analytical leaders with the problem-solving skills to drive innovation within the community and commercial sports sectors. The sports and exercise elements of the course develop professional and leadership skills in activities enjoyed by the general population throughout their lifespan.

The enterprise and business elements of the course help students to develop the creativity, innovation and enterprise skills that characterise successful business leaders in sport.

What makes this course different

Understanding the Industry

Sport and exercise science has a key role in society, ranging from improving sports performance in elite athletes to reducing the burden of disease associated with physical inactivity in modern lifestyles. By improving our understanding of how the body and mind respond and adapt to exercise, we can develop new research-based approaches to enhance performance and health. Both sports and business thrive on innovation and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Work placement

In Year 3 students have the opportunity to study abroad or to be placed in an organisation on a 12-week industry work placement. This gives students a much broader experience for both their soft skills and technical skills. They can also gain contacts in industry to help them in their future career.

Professional Accreditations

Students can gain additional professional awards qualifications as an exercise professional and a wide range of coaching qualifications in sports such as GAA, FAI, Athletics, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, and Disability Inclusion Training.

Education Progression

On completion of this course, students will be eligible to progress onto the Level 8 Add-On course: BA (Hons) in Sport, Exercise with Enterprise. (This will be subject to student numbers. Where places are limited, offers will be linked to the final GPA achieved.)
