“I wanted a course where I could show off my creativity and explore opportunities across different areas or sectors,” according to Fourth Year DkIT student James Devine, on why the Digital Marketing & Strategic Communications course was the right choice for him. “It would open a vast range of career options and had many modules that matched my creative interests.

The course combines theory with practical projects, giving students opportunities to apply their learning to real-world marketing challenges.

Experiences such as a fundraising event for Focus Ireland and a 12-week placement with the DkIT Marketing team gave James valuable opportunities to put his skills into practice. 

“Being in a work environment where you're encouraged to grow while feeling supported and trusted was incredibly beneficial, he said, reflecting on his internship, “The experience gave me much greater confidence about working in marketing after graduation.”

From developing creative campaigns to leading his own ‘Creators on Campus’ initiative, James made a significant contribution during his internship while also representing DkIT at major events, including the UCAS Discovery Event in Lisburn.

“From creating campaigns to representing DkIT at high-profile events, every part of this internship helped me develop, both personally and professionally.”

Modules including Writing for Digital Media, Event Management, and Image Editing and Design Theory helped James build practical skills while developing his creativity.

“With a massive rise in online marketing and communication, effectively getting your business or product out there is more important than ever. This course helps prepare you for all aspects of these areas while developing many other transferrable skills.” 

In James’s experience, creativity and strong communication skills are also key to success on the course.

Having gained valuable industry experience during his time at DkIT, James is now focused on the next chapter of his journey.
