DkIT Film & Television students triumph at Royal Television Society Student Awards

DkIT Film and Television students recently had a hugely successful night at the Royal Television Society Student Awards held at RTÉ Studio 4.

The DkIT students surpassed their previous achievements, receiving the highest number of nominations to date and taking home an impressive seven awards throughout the evening. DkIT swept the board at the prestigious awards, winning 3 out of the 4 categories for which they were nominated, and an additional four craft awards.

Echo was honoured with Best Drama, People You’d Know received Best Factual Short Form film, and My Life with Brian took home Best Comedy and Entertainment. Other DkIT films were shortlisted for the awards. Saudade (Grief) and Ailurophilia were shortlisted for Best Factual Short Form film, while Lies of Envy was in the running for Best Drama.

Five craft awards were also presented on the night, with the DkIT teams taking home four of them - Best Editing for People You'd Know, Best Writing for My Life with Brian, Best Production Design for Borrowed Time, and Best Cinematography for Echo.

The RTS Student Television Awards encourage, nurture, support and reward talent, potential and enthusiasm of students in colleges and universities for the creation of film and video content. The awards were established to celebrate and recognise outstanding skills, ambition and creativity and a unique opportunity for students to put their creative talents before the critical eye of professionals.

Lauren Corlett, Writer and Director of Echo said:

“I'm overwhelmed and honoured to have received this award. I couldn't be prouder of my team and their achievements that have come from this project and I hope to see us all go farther in the future.”

Sarah McCann, Lecturer in the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music at DkIT said:
