DkAP: DkIT Access Programme: Your supported pathway to higher education

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is delighted to launch the ‘Certificate in Access to Higher Education’ to widen access and participation in third-level courses.

The full-time Level 6 programme has been designed to provide an accessible route to third-level education for a diverse cohort of students that face barriers to accessing third-level courses.  and will run from Nov 25 - May 26, with approximately three days of lectures per week.

The Certificate in Access to Higher Education is fully-funded by the HEA Performance Funding 2024, where DkIT was awarded €1M on basis of the success of the Headstart & Pathways programmes.

The programme is the ideal way to ease in to the college experience, with modules including Applied Study Skills, Information and Communication Technology and The Application of Numbers. On successful completion of the course, participants will have the opportunity to gain entry onto a number of DkIT Degree Programmes.

There are no standard educational requirements, such as the Leaving Certificate, for entry onto the programme. However, applicants must meet at least three of the following criteria: demonstrate their commitment to and potential benefit from the programme; come from a socio-economic group underrepresented in higher education or show other forms of socio-economic or educational disadvantage as defined in the National Access Programme (NAP); have completed the Louth Local Development/DkIT Pathways and/or Headstart programme; be in receipt of a means-tested social welfare payment; live in an area of urban or rural disadvantage; have attended a DEIS school for a minimum of two years; or have participated in a Youthreach or similar community programme.

All applicants must be over 18 years (by 1st January in the proposed year of entry).
