Dundalk Institute of Technology hosts successful GameJam Event
On March 24th 2022 Dundalk Institute of Technology hosted a Game Jam for all 1st and 2nd-year students in the Department of Visual and Human-Centred Computing.
This annual event has been unable to run for the last couple of years due to the pandemic but saw a welcome return this year to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of DkIT.

The theme of this year’s event was Accessibility within Games. Students were tasked with creating a game that can be played by neurodivergent gamers or those with either a physical or mental disability. As part of this year’s theme, there was a guest talk given by Stephen Howell Senior Program Manager and Accessibility Pillar Lead with Microsoft, about Accessibility within Games and how important this is in games development.
Students worked in teams from 9 am right through to 7 pm to develop their games to get them ready for judging. The games developed on the day were judged by Matt McCann and Donal McClean of Access Earth. There were two prize categories, Best Game and Game Which Most Followed the Theme of Accessibility within Games.
Winners of 'Best Game'
- Dylan Fennelly, Brandon Thompson, Ryan Hoey, James Singleton and Stephen Duggan
Winners of 'Game Which Most Followed the Theme of Accessibility within Games'
- Gracie Chaudhary, Jason Pyke, Eimantas Tercijonas, Ross Borromeo and Sejal Umes
Well done to all involved on the day!
