Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering

We offer programmes in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Design Engineering and in Renewable Energy systems (post graduate only). Our graduates combine fundamental principles of engineering technology with knowhow to solve real world problems using electrical, mechanical and electronic devices as appropriate. A major theme of the Department is in Sustainability - how efficient consumption of materials and energy can minimise damage to the environment.

Product engineers, both Mechanical and Electronic have wide scope. They design, develop, test, and manufacture industrial machinery, consumer products, and other equipment. They may assist in product tests—for example, by setting up instrumentation. They may make sketches and rough layouts, record and analyze data, make calculations and estimates, and report on their findings. When planning production, they prepare layouts and drawings of the assembly process and of parts to be manufactured. They estimate labour costs, equipment life, and plant space. Some may test, calibrate, repair and inspect equipment or work to eliminate production problems.
