Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering

Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering at DkIT.

The Department of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering focuses on providing an education which equips Graduates with the qualifications necessary to meet current and future technological challenges.

Major themes such as Entrepreneurial Endeavour and Sustainability are incorporated across the Department’s programmes and our graduates will have the knowledge to provide technical solutions which are efficient in terms of resources, energy consumption and minimising damage to the environment.

The resources of the department are utilised to ensure that graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies necessary for employment as Graduate Engineers. Our graduates combine fundamental principles of engineering technology with the knowledge to solve real-world problems.

Student Stories

Facilities

Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities including discipline-specific laboratories, design studios and workshops.

These facilities are equipped with the technology to enable the practical aspect of the programmes to be delivered.

We also have an Energy Engineering Research Laboratory which is located in the Carroll Building. Significant investment was made to create this space which is dedicated to energy research. Among the laboratory equipment is an Experimental Wave Tank which is one of a small number of such facilities in Ireland.

The laboratories and work areas include the following:

    • Electronic Laboratories
    • Engineering Design Studio
    • Automation and Control Laboratory
    • Thermodynamics Laboratory
    • Fluid Dynamics Laboratory
    • General Workshops
    • Computer-Numerical-Control Workshop
    • Materials Laboratory
    • Mechanics Laboratory
    • Computer Laboratories
    • Energy Utilisation Laboratory
