Course Overview

Level 1 focuses on foundational safety awareness for both technical stall (motor mechanics) and non-technical staff (valet staff, parts and sales personnel, and electric vehicle drivers). Participants gain an understanding of the different types of electric and hybrid vehicles, hazards associated with high-energy electrical systems, and safe practices for working around these vehicles, including proper charging techniques.
Level 2 builds upon the Level 1 foundation, offering a more in-depth understanding of hybrid and electric vehicle systems. It covers topics like identifying and mitigating risks associated with high-energy electrical systems, best practices for safe working conditions around electric and hybrid vehicles, and emergency handling procedures.
Both levels emphasise the importance of safety protocols and provide participants with the knowledge to confidently and safely interact with electric and hybrid vehicles.

Course Delivery and Modules
Classes run *Mondays* 5.30pm to 8.50pm for 5 weeks from Monday 13th January 2024 until Monday 17th February 2024.
All classes run at DkIT campus.

Course Content
This is a single standalone module worth 5 Credits at QQI Level 6. The indicative content is as follows:
- Identify the types of Electric/Hybrid vehicles that are available. Safety procedures and protocols associated with working on Electric/Hybrid vehicles.
- Apply safety protocols and demonstrate the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other equipment with Electric/Hybrid vehicles.
- Locate and evaluate equipment safety requirements for safe and secure isolation of Electric/Hybrid vehicles.
- Apply best practices for safe Isolation procedures on Electric/Hybrids vehicles.
- Demonstrate competence in working on Electric/Hybrid vehicles.
Education Progression
This is a higher education 5 credit module which may be recognised by other higher education providers for possible module exemptions on other programmes.

- Previous experience working with electric/hybrid vehicles
- While this course is aimed at Qualified Motor Mechanics, anyone who, in their day-to-day work, comes into regular contact with electric/hybrid vehicles may also apply.
