Applications are open for the MSc in Building Surveying, starting in January 2025. Applications will close on 11th December 2024.

 

The Postgraduate Diploma will open for applications in Spring 2025 and the programme will commence in September 2025.

Course Overview

This programme is designed for graduates with a qualification and / or experience of the construction / building industry who wish to convert to a career in Building Surveying.

The programme addresses all the qualification requirements set down by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and upon completion graduates of the programme may undertake the SCSI Assessment of Professional Competence to become a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Course Delivery and Modules

The Postgraduate Diploma in Building Surveying is available in full-time mode (2 days per week over 1 year) or part-time mode (1 day per week over 2 years).

The MSc course is the Postgraduate Diploma followed by a research dissertation (1 semester).

Both courses are delivered online.

Work Placement

Suitable work experience is essential to the students learning and a requirement of the SCSI. Students with suitable employment may complete the Industrial Practice module within their existing place of work.

Students not working in a relevant industry will complete the Work Placement, supported by DkIT Work Placement Office.

Professional Accreditations

Professional Accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Education Progression

Graduates can carry out additional industry training, register for the Assessment of Professional Competence and train to become a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Successful completion of the MSc programme can lead to further progression within industry, or to further level 10 / PhD pathways.

Entry Requirements

  • Entrants should have a minimum of a 2nd class honours degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Estate Management, Civil Engineering or a related (cognate) area.
  • Applicants who do not meet these requirements but have relevant work experience may be assessed for entry in line with the DkIT RPL Policy and Procedures. Learn about RPL
  • International students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.5. Candidates may be interviewed.
