Course Overview
The Postgraduate Diploma in Building Surveying offers an excellent opportunity for people with current or prior experience in the construction industry to upskill or transition into roles as Building Surveyors, Design Certifiers, or Assigned Certifiers.
The programme is tailored for individuals actively engaged in construction-related fields who aspire to become Building Surveyors, those with relevant industry experience seeking to re-enter the workforce, holders of cognate degrees, candidates with non-cognate degrees and applicable work experience, professionals aiming to transition into Building Surveying, or those pursuing accreditation as Registered or Chartered Building Surveyors.
This programme meets all the qualification requirements of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI). Upon completion, graduates can take the SCSI Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to become Chartered Building Surveyors and serve as Assigned Certifiers or Design Certifiers.

Career Opportunities
Building Surveyors are involved in activity across every built environment sector including residential, commercial, industrial and health and specialise in construction technology, building pathology, measurement and analysing design and building defects. For this reason, the Building Surveying profession is critically important in advising clients about energy performance, building control regulations and remediation of legacy defects such as pyrite.

Course Delivery and Modules
The Postgraduate Diploma is delivered Full-Time, 2 days a week over 1 year, or Part-Time, 1 day per week over 2 years.
It is delivered 100% online, Monday and Friday, within the hours of 9 am – 5 pm.

- Industrial Practice or Work Placement (electives)
Work placement
Relevant work experience is recommended for students learning.
Students with a cognate degree and in suitable employment may complete the Industrial Practice module within their existing place of work. Students either without a cognate degree or without suitable employment will complete the Work Placement module, supported by DkIT Work Placement Office.
Professional Accreditations
Professional Accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Education Progression
Graduates can carry out additional industry training, register for the Assessment of Professional Competence and train to become a Chartered Building Surveyor.
Successful students may also progress onto the MSc in Building Surveying programme DkIT.

Fees and Funding
EU Fees:
- Full-time / Part-time (EU): €5,100
- Student Financial Support Scheme Fee (EU): €500
DkIT will waive 50% of the fee for this programme for applicants who have secured the support of a SCSI listed Employer. The Employer will cover €2,000 of the fee with the student paying the balance of €500 to register on the programme. The applicant would need to have the support of the Employer in place by the start of the academic year. Please note that supporting employers are not limited to Building Surveying practices. This new Student Financial Support Scheme for the Postgraduate in Building Surveying is a partnership between DkIT and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI). - Full-time / Part-time (Non-EU): €11,500

Entry requirements
- Entrants should have a minimum of a 2nd class honours degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Estate Management, Civil Engineering or a related (cognate) area.
- Applicants who do not meet these requirements but have relevant work experience may be assessed for entry in line with the DkIT RPL Policy and Procedures. Learn about RPL
- International students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.5. Candidates may be interviewed.

Should the applicant's employer not be on that list, it may be possible for them to be added to the list of supporting employers by liaising directly with SCSI. Candidates who are not currently in employment (or wish to change employer) can also view job opportunities with supporting employers on the jobs board section of the SCSI website.
