Michael Van Dessel Choral Conducting Scholar

The Michael Van Dessel award was launched in recognition of the contribution made by Michael Van Dessel (1899—1974) to music in this region as teacher, choral conductor, performer, organist, pianist, cellist, accompanist and musical director. An authority in sacred music, he held posts at both St. Patrick’s Church and St. Joseph’s Redemptorist Church in Dundalk, and to many he was regarded as Dundalk’s ‘most distinguished musician’. The 2018 recipient of the Michael Van Dessel Choral Conducting Scholar Award is Tara Raftery. Read More

John Moore Film Award

The John Moore Film Award is awarded annually to the best short film produced by a third or fourth-year student on the BA (Hons) Film and Television Production. John Moore is a film director based in Hollywood and known for his work on movies such as Flight of the Phoenix, Behind Enemy Lines, The Omen and A Good Day to Die Hard. Given John’s roots in Dundalk, it is a great honour for Dundalk Institute of Technology to present the award and we are delighted with the continued support from John in the development of our BA (Hons) Film and Television Production degree.
