Sammy Poni

BB in Business & Management

“There is a lot of support in the college and a big sense of community. "

Sammy Poni is a 2nd Year Business & Management student from Dundalk, Co. Louth.

Sammy decided to study her business degree at DkIT due to the location of the campus and the versatility of the course;

I decided to study at DkIT because it was very convenient for me, and also I liked the college better than other colleges.

I chose this course because I want to go into management and eventually HR and then after that I want to hopefully run my own company. Business has a lot of transferable skills so it was the best choice for me.”

Sammy has picked up a range of new skills while studying at DkIT;

Cost accounting is one skill that I learned and one of my favourite aspects of the course. I also found the law module really interesting because it is an element I had never done before so it was really interesting to learn about.”

Sammy has been actively involved in life at DkIT outside of the classroom;

I am co-chair of the Volunteer Society. We manage the club and try to organise events for charities. And I also play for the ladies basketball team in DkIT.”

Sammy faced some challenges when starting out at third level;

With my home life, college kind of clashed. But once I got into the rhythm of it, it’s not a problem now.”

Sammy thinks the best thing about being a student at DkIT is the supports available and the sense of community;

There is a lot of support in the college and a big sense of community. It’s very inclusive and there are so many things to do. No one is excluded from anything and there are lots of opportunities to get to know new people.”
