Joanne White
Biography
Joanne White teaches across construction programmes with a primary focus on Quantity Surveying. She delivers modules in measurement, project control, project management, construction technology, and domestic construction. With over 15 years’ industry experience, her teaching is strongly practice-informed. Her academic interests focus on diversity and inclusion in construction, and she regularly contributes to industry and academic discourse through training and conference engagement.
Qualifications & Awards
Joanne holds a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying from Dundalk Institute of Technology, an MSc in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, and an MSc in Quantity Surveying from Technological University Dublin. She was also awarded the CIOB Open Award in 2025.
Research & Interests
Joanne’s research focuses on gender in construction, exploring why women are underrepresented in the industry. Her previous work includes studies on why women do not choose construction careers and gender perceptions of construction among third-level students. She is currently investigating the “leaky pipeline” phenomenon, examining the factors that lead women to leave the construction sector. Joanne has presented her research at international conferences, including the Associated Schools of Construction Conference in Liverpool, the GenderEx Conference in Istanbul, and the CIB World Building Conference in Purdue.
