Biography

Dr. Catherine Mulwa has a PhD in Computer Science, an MSc in Computing (Information & Knowledge Engineering) and a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science.

As part of her pedagogical career development she has a ​Postgraduate  Diploma in Third Level Learning and Teaching , an ILM-accredited Professional Skills for Research Leaders (PSRL)  and a Certification in Academic Practice and E-Learning. She has 15+ years teaching experience in third level institutions in Ireland and  17 years research experience. Main responsibilities includes lecturing in both Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes.

In addition, Dr Mulwa was Programme Director for the Higher Diploma in Science in Computing  ( Sem 1 & Sem 2 2025) , and previously was Programme Director of the  Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Data Analytics at Hibernia College Dublin.

Dr. Mulwa has extensive experience in project supervisions for both undergraduate and Postgraduate. She has successfully supervised to completion  300+ MSc projects in Data Analytics ,Cloud Computing and Software Engineering (since 2012 to date). In addition she has successfully supervised to completion 30+ undergraduate projects in computer science ( i.e. software engineering, data analytics and Internet of Things). In addition Dr Mulwa has supervised several postgraduate diploma projects in computer science.

International Teaching Experience - Lecturer & researcher at East China University of Science and Technology. In 2017, as a visiting lecturer and researcher; I was involved in lecturing final year computer science students who were undertaking software engineering as part of exchange programme between Ireland and China.

Research & Interests

Her research area  focuses on computing education, cognitive and prediction systems ( focused on recommender systems), data analytics, technology enhanced learning, human computer interaction, personalization , Web accessibility, Knowledge Engineering & Software Testing with a focus on evaluation of adaptive and adaptable systems.

Previously, Dr. Mulwa was the principle investigator of ENHANCE project at  Dublin City University, Faculty of Engineering and Computing which was funded under the Irish Research Council. The project aimed at investigating challenges and issues encountered by students with sensor impairments when interacting with educational interfaces of accessibility. Prior to this she was a Post Doctoral Researcher in the same institution working with the EAGLE ( EnhAnced Government LEarning) project; which was  funded by the EU under FP7.
