Biography

She  is a lecturer in the pre-registration Mental Health Nursing programme and also lectures across a number of graduate programmes with 24 years’ experience. She is the programme Director for the BSc in Mental Health Nursing, the Certificate in Nursing/ Midwifery Medicinal Product Prescribing and the Certificate in  Comprehensive Advanced Health Assessment.  She is a recipient of the Teaching Hero award by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in higher Education in Ireland.  She was former Ministerial nominee to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

Research & Interests

Her research interest at this time includes the role of nature-based therapies in the maintenance of mental wellbeing, the physical health of people with mental health disorders and ongoing interest in nurse/midwife  prescribing research. She completed a programme of research supervision called the Research Supervisor Support and Development Programme through UCD Graduate Studies (in collaboration with the teaching and Learning Academy TCD) in 2015.  This programme was targeted at both new, inexperienced research supervisors and those more experienced staff who wanted would like to refresh their knowledge in the area. She also has extensive experience supervising master’s theses, from which she has presented or published with the students. During this academic year she is supervising 2 master’s thesis from year 2 and 6 year 1 research proposals on the MSc in Professional Practice: Professional Management of Complex Behaviors in Clinical Practice. Currently she is a reviewer for the Journal of Prescribing Practice. She has presented at conferences nationally and internationally and has published peer review articles in international journals. Presently she is the external examiner for the BSc (hons) in Mental Health Nursing at the Technological University Shannon formerly Athlone Institute of Technology.
