Developing an Agile-based Model for Addressing Defects in Medical Device Software Development

Misheck investigated the problem of defects in Medical Device Software (MDS) development and presents the Agile V-Model for Addressing Defects (AV4AD), a model designed to enable MDS developers to proactively address defects throughout the development lifecycle. The AV4AD model was developed by integrating agile practices that address defects with the V-Model. It is designed for use by any MDS organisation, regardless of organisational size, device classification or associated risk level. The model allows developers to address defects throughout the development lifecycle of MDS by using agile practices to prevent them in the early stages and identify those that may arise in later stages. By supporting both early defect prevention and identification in later stages, the AV4AD model reduces the likelihood of defects reaching the final software release. This ultimately minimises the risk of patient injuries, deaths, as well as financial loss and reputational damage for MDS organisations.
