29 March 2019

DkIT Students Lisa Foster (BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing), Siobhan McBennett (BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing), Martina Murphy (BSc (Hons) in Midwifery) and Dylan Gartland (BSc (Hons) in General Nursing) this week received the DkIT-Servisource Scholarship which was launched in 2016.  At a ceremony today, the students were presented with a cheque for €1,500 euros from Sinead Kieran, Marketing Manager, Servisource, which will support them as they the complete their nursing and midwifery degrees at DkIT.

The DkIT-Servisource Scholarship Programme is now in its third year and is aimed at providing additional motivation and resources to nursing and midwifery students as they enter the third year of their degree, a critical point in their undergraduate studies. As part of the assessment process, students were asked to submit a 2,000 word scholarship assignment in which they reflected on their clinical experience to date and demonstrated their understanding of the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses & Midwives in Ireland.

Speaking today, Dr Myles Hackett, Head of Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Early Years at DkIT said,

“This award focuses on encouraging our students to reflect on a crucially important aspect of nursing and midwifery, which is to act with kindness and compassion while delivering safe, high quality care. Each of the winning students produced exceptional assignments and demonstrated a robust understanding of the topic. This is a fantastic achievement which will help enhance their CVs and will undoubtedly support them as they progress with their careers in nursing and midwifery. I would also like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Institute to thank Servisource for generously sponsoring the scholarship.”

Also speaking today, Sinead Kieran, Marketing Manager, Servisource, said,

“Servisource are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with DkIT again this year and to offer all nursing and midwifery students the opportunity to apply for a nursing and midwifery scholarship. This is the third year of the scholarship programme and we look forward to many successful years to come.  We would like to wish all the nursing and midwifery students every success in the future and we would be delighted to provide any support we can in terms of finding the best nursing and midwifery opportunities for them”

The DkIT-Servisource Scholarship is an annual award which is open to third-year nursing and midwifery students at the Institute and is designed to encourage and reward students that show promise and dedication. Students are assessed on their commitment to nursing practice, passion for the profession and their drive to succeed.

In addition to the scholarship awards, this year DkIT nursing & midwifery students were entered into a competition prize to win concert tickets to see Ariana Grande in concert later this year, courtesy of Servisource. The winner was selected at random from the audience of students in attendance at the information briefing in September.
