At the recent European Sociological Association (ESA) international conference ‘Sociological Knowledges for Alternative Futures’, held in Barcelona/online, Dr. Bernadette Brereton, DkIT researcher, was elected as the Chair of the Council of Research Networks.  This prestigious role promotes Bernadette to membership of the ESA Executive Committee and at the head of all 37 international research networks for the coming 2-year period.

Speaking of her nomination and election, Bernadette said:

‘It was such an honour to be nominated and elected to this important role at the recent ESA15 conference, attended by four thousand delegates.  In my 2-year term, I hope to promote and encourage all the research networks to continue their excellent work in international sociology.  I would also like to wish my colleagues Dr. Adriana Aubert, University of Barcelona and Dr. Jannick Demanet, University of Ghent, the very best in their work in co-ordinating the Sociology of Education research network, following my retirement from the role of co-ordinator.  I know they will continue to promote great work and collaboration, as always.’

Dr. Patricia Moriarty, Head of School of Business and Humanities said:

‘I’d like to congratulate my School of Business and Humanities colleague, Bernadette, on her recent election to the Chair of the ESA Research Council and wish her good luck in all her future work with the ESA’.
