Musical classic Little Shop of Horrors set to stage at DkIT
Musical Theatre students at Dundalk Institute of Technology are set to present their final-year BA in Musical Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors, with Book and Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Music by Alan Menken, in the MacAnna Theatre at DkIT on 22nd and 23rd April.
Based on the film by Roger Corman, Screenplay by Charles Griffith, this darkly comic cult classic is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
The musical will take place nightly at 7:30pm, with general admission tickets priced at €10 and tickets for students and under 18s priced at €5.
This fully staged production showcases the impressive talent of DkIT’s graduating BA in Musical Theatre students as they bring this iconic Broadway favourite to life.
Set on the gritty streets of Skid Row, the musical follows shy florist Seymour, played by Mars Mac Namee from Knockbridge, as he discovers a mysterious plant, played by Brooke Rafferty Shaw from Dundalk. The plant promises fame, fortune and romance; however, as it begins to grow, so too do its demands, leading to a hilarious and horrifying chain of events. The performance features a lively score packed with toe-tapping hits, outrageous characters, and the unforgettable Audrey II.
“Audiences can expect a high-energy, entertaining show with a vibrant score and a lot of personality, showcasing the wonderful talent of the BA in Musical Theatre students at DkIT,” said Sarah McCourt, Musical Director of the production, who is working alongside Sinéad Lightley, Director of Little Shop of Horrors.
