University of Massachusetts delegation hosted by Queen’s University Belfast and Dundalk Institute of Technology at DkIT campus

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), in collaboration with its strategic partner Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), hosted the President of the University of Massachusetts (UMass), Marty Meehan, and a travelling delegation, for a focused programme of engagement on Friday, 24 April. The visit reflected a shared commitment to deepening transatlantic collaboration in higher education, research, and industry engagement.

The visiting delegation was welcomed by DkIT President, Dr. Diarmuid O’Callaghan and senior representatives from DkIT and Queen's for a roundtable discussion focusing on the Queen's–DkIT Strategic Partnership and the Dublin–Belfast Economic Corridor. The discussion explored recent developments between DkIT and Queen's, in particular the formalisation of the Heads of Agreement between the two institutions and the partnership’s long-term vision.

Areas such as joint industry engagement were also discussed, including the complementary roles of QUBIS and the Regional Development Centre (RDC) at DkIT and how coordinated engagement with industry partners North and South is creating a more integrated support structure for enterprise, entrepreneurship, and applied research.

The impact of internationalisation was also explored in addition to opportunities for student mobility, faculty exchange, and collaborative programme development.

Speaking after the visit, Dr Diarmuid O’Callaghan, President of DkIT said:

“It was wonderful to welcome a delegation from University of Massachusetts to the DkIT campus today along with our colleagues from Queen’s. The visit was a fantastic opportunity to discuss our strategic partnership with Queen’s, the innovation and research collaborations across our institutions and open pathways for meaningful engagement with UMass across education, research, and industry collaboration. We look forward to welcoming our guests back to Dundalk in the future.”
