Postdoctoral Researcher Séamus Harvey publishes research on Mental wellbeing screening in youth football
Séamus Harvey, a Postdoctoral Researcher with NetwellCASALA, recently published a paper titled ‘A mental well-being screening process in an elite youth football academy’ in the Sport Psychologist’s special issue on mental well-being.
This paper documents an innovative project to develop, implement, and test a mental well-being screening process with male and female players in the intense environment of a Premier League club’s academy. This paper also describes a collaborative effort between practitioners and researchers to ensure that the screening process was both practically and empirically robust, with the latest state-of-the-art methodological techniques utilised. The process described can aid football academies’ efforts to safeguard their youth players’ mental well-being, and adds to the evidence base on how to support ethical and effective practice in high performance domains.
