Ramor Watch Launch Brings Community Together for Lough Ramor

The official launch of a H2O Heroes Community Superheroes Initiative called Ramor Watch recently brought together local residents, scientists and volunteers who care deeply about the future of Lough Ramor, Co. Cavan. The new citizen science programme, developed in partnership with Virginia Town Team and supported by the H2O Heroes teams at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), aims to empower communities to play an active role in monitoring and protecting their local lake.

Despite wet weather conditions, the event attracted an enthusiastic crowd for an afternoon of learning, connection and action. Participants discovered how citizen science can help protect water quality and support the long-term stewardship of one of Cavan's most valued natural assets. The rain certainly did not dampen spirits, with attendees embracing the opportunity to get involved and learn more about the science behind lake monitoring.

A special congratulations goes to the programme's newest citizen scientists, who took their first steps on an exciting journey of environmental discovery and community action. Through Ramor Watch, volunteers will contribute valuable data that will help build a shared evidence base for protecting and enhancing the health of Lough Ramor.

Speaking after the event, Virginia Town Team Chairperson, Councillor T.P. O'Reilly, welcomed the strong turnout and enthusiasm shown by participants.

“It was a great event and great to see the enthusiasm of the young people. It's so important to protect and learn how we can benefit our rivers and lakes.”

Organisers thanked everyone who braved the weather to attend and make the launch such a success. The event demonstrated the power of community collaboration and marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in local environmental stewardship.
