Meet the new DkIT Students’ Union Team

The three full-time members of the SU team will be joined by six part-time officers in October across a variety of roles such as Communications Officer, Academic Officer, and Postgraduate Officer.

Having previously served as Vice President for Student Engagement and Vice President for Welfare and Equality, Tobi brings two years of SU experience to her new role as President.

An Audio Music Graduate, Tobi has played a significant role in DkIT’s SU over the past two years. As Vice President for Welfare and Equality, she launched DkIT's inaugural Black History Month campaign, which celebrated diversity and gave students the opportunity to learn, engage, and celebrate different cultures. In her role as Vice President for Engagement, she introduced DkIT's first-ever Culture Week, which saw students come together to celebrate the different cultures on campus and create a stronger sense of community.

“I felt that I still had more to offer and that my work was not yet finished,” said Tobi as she commenced her new role.  

Her key objectives include representing the student voice and creating a welcoming community where every student feels safe, valued, and heard.

“As President, I am committed to further strengthening the relationship between students and the academic community, fostering even greater collaboration and communication, and ensuring an environment where students can thrive both personally and academically.”

Making sure that students thrive is also a key objective for Rosheen as she continues her role in Welfare and Equality. 

"My goal is to continue making a positive difference by creating a welcoming Students' Union where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed," she said. 

A key priority for Rosheen is reducing the stigma surrounding mental health by encouraging open conversations, raising awareness, and improving access to support services.

Over her last year in the role, she has organised a number of events and initiatives to encourage student engagement and wellbeing. One of her proudest achievements was leading Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (SHAG) Week. This initiative saw fantastic student participation and helped promote important conversations around sexual health in an open and welcoming environment. 

“I want the Students' Union office to be a place where every student feels comfortable, supported, and confident to drop in, ask for help, or simply have a chat,” says Rosheen. 

The newest member of the full-time team, Kayzee, is no stranger to the DkIT SU, having served as International Officer during the last academic year.

“I stepped up to join the SU because I experienced my own hurdles as a student, and I know how important it is to have the right support when challenges arise. I wanted to take on this role to advocate for students facing hard realities such as the cost of living and to be part of a union that listens, understands, and works alongside them every step of the way.”

Having recently completed studies in Global Marketing & Strategic Communication, Kayzee has a strong passion for hands-on community building and local entrepreneurship, having helped launch Canopy Coffee in Newry and currently working towards the launch of Common Ground Café in Park Street, Dundalk.

“Common Ground is built to be a platform for local students and artists: whenever they showcase or sell their work in the café, they keep 100% of the money. Building businesses has always come naturally to me, and now that I have the means and the platform, I want to uplift our community collectively. That same drive is what I’m bringing to the SU—using real action to build spaces where people are supported and given a genuine chance to thrive.”

Kayzee plans to put his tech and media skills to good use, maximising the SU’s efficiency. 

“I want to have a genuine, human-to-human communication strategy, focusing on having real, continuous conversations with the students we represent.”

As they look forward to welcoming students back for the year ahead, as a trio, increasing student involvement is high on the agenda for the SU Team. 

“We want to increase student engagement, create more inclusive spaces, strengthen the student voice, and provide more opportunities for students to connect with one another.”
