Into the Blue, Out of the Blue: Creative Workshop Celebrates International Women’s Day

On March 13th, 2026, Dundalk Institute of Technology marked International Women’s Day with a creative workshop as part of its Healthy Campus initiative. The event brought together female staff and students for a hands-on experience combining traditional and digital art practices.

Participants explored the historic cyanotype process, creating botanical prints using foraged and locally sourced plants. This nature-based activity encouraged mindfulness and wellbeing while introducing a sustainable photographic technique in a supportive, collaborative environment.

In the afternoon session, the workshop moved into the digital realm, where participants enhanced their cyanotype prints using augmented reality (AR) and generative AI. By adding layers of sound, animation, and digital storytelling, the artworks were transformed into interactive pieces. The final creations were shared via a collaborative Padlet wall and accessed through QR codes.

The workshop provided an engaging and inspiring opportunity to explore creativity, connection, and innovation. Participants demonstrated strong imagination and enthusiasm, successfully blending traditional artistic methods with contemporary digital tools.

Jackie Toal said:

This was a hands on and engaging event connecting nature with technology and learning about the process of cyanotype was interesting to everyone. We would like to thank The Healthy Campus Fund for supporting this workshop, which was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.
