Dr Coleman Dennehy presents research in Hong Kong
Dr Coleman Dennehy, a legal historian at Dundalk Institute of Technology, recently gave a short series of lectures based on his research at recent conferences in Hong Kong.
Dr Dennehy presented a paper on the origins of the 1720 Irish Dependency Act and its influence on the similar 1766 Act targeting American colonies at the Global 1776 Conference, where more than a hundred scholars from around the world discussed the global impact of the American Revolution. The following week he attended the Asian Legal History Conference where he pondered indigenous brehon law, the development of English common law in medieval Ireland, march law, and the clash of civilisation. He was supported in travelling to East Asia by the Consulate General of Ireland in Hong Kong.
