DkIT Women’s Basketball Team secure historic victory against ATU Galway
The women’s basketball team at DkIT were recently named champions in the NBCC College Division 3 Final against ATU Galway, held in the National Basketball Arena.
DkIT came out triumphant with a score of 54 to their fierce opponents ATU Galway’s 49.
The win, which is the first national basketball title in the institute’s history has also secured DkIT a place in the College Intervarsities Competition.
ATU Galway proved tough opponents with a tie of 17-17 at the end of the first quarter. However, the DkIT team moved slightly ahead to bring the half time score to 30-26.
ATU Galway made a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring DkIT 12-5, but this only served to increase determination on the DkIT side for the fourth quarter, with the team finishing the game five points ahead.
DkIT captain Kate Kelly was named Most Valuable Player.
