DkIT welcomes large numbers of new students for the 2026-2027 academic year
DkIT has welcomed a new cohort of first year students on campus to begin their third-level journeys.
There was an increase in first year intake for this year, which was due to a combination of increases in application rates for this year and places offered by DkIT.
Overall, CAO applications for this year rose by over 20%, with almost 1500 registrations to date. Programmes such as Biopharmaceutical Science and Arts showed increases in popularity this year. The Institute’s new programmes in Computing in Cyber Security and Computing Infrastructure, and Computing in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence were also popular choices among this year’s intake.
The rise in CAO course registrations for this year, reflects the growing demand for DkIT programmes. This was particularly the case in programmes in the area of the Built Environment such as Quantity Surveying and Architectural Technology. There was also strong progression of students from the Further Education sector into DkIT, with numbers significantly higher than 2025. This included, for the first time students progressing from Louth and Meath ETB and Cavan and Monaghan ETB in to their first year studying Intellectual Disability Nursing at DkIT.
New first-years were recently welcomed on the Dundalk campus for college induction over two days. The new students had the opportunity to explore the campus on guided tours and hear from members of staff and the Students’ Union about the wide range of support services and opportunities available at DkIT.
