DkIT Secures €972,000 Funding through Research Ireland’s New RINN AI Research Centre

DkIT has secured €972,000 in funding as a partner in the newly launched Research Ireland Centre for Research and Innovation in Networked Intelligence and AI (RINN AI), one of seven new national research centres announced by Research Ireland on June 10th.

The centre is led by Dublin City University (DCU) and brings together researchers from universities and institutes of technology across Ireland to advance cutting-edge research in AI, data science, and digital technologies. RINN AI will develop innovative approaches to trustworthy, human-centred, and socially responsible AI, ensuring that technological advances deliver meaningful benefits for individuals, communities, industry, and society.

DkIT’s involvement in RINN AI is co-led by Dr. Julie Doyle, Director of the NetwellCASALA Research Centre, and Professor Fergal McCaffery, Director of the Regulated Software Research Centre. Together, they will lead DkIT’s contribution across areas including human-centred AI design, trustworthy AI, digital health, and responsible AI innovation.

A distinctive feature of RINN AI is its strong commitment to Education and Public Engagement (EPE) and engaged research. The centre recognises that the future of AI should be shaped not only by researchers and industry, but also by the communities and citizens who will be affected by these technologies. Through a comprehensive programme of public engagement, AI literacy initiatives, citizen involvement activities, and community partnerships, RINN AI will work to improve understanding of AI and ensure that diverse voices are represented in the design and development of future AI systems.
