Celebrating a Major Mobile Digital Lab Milestone
This week we reached an important milestone for the Mobile Digital Lab (MDL) at Dundalk Institute of Technology – over 500 people have now participated in MDL programmes, workshops, demonstrations and training activities.
Since launching, the Mobile Digital Lab has delivered more than 35 events across the East Border Region Region, from Bangor to Trim, bringing digital innovation directly to communities, schools, businesses and organisations. What began as an ambitious vision to make emerging technologies more accessible has grown into a project that is helping people of all ages build confidence, develop skills and explore new opportunities in the digital world.
With careful selection of Digital Technology tools via Tadhg Deeney such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, digital creativity and emerging technologies, participants have been able to engage with innovation in a practical and meaningful way. For many, it has been their first opportunity to experience these technologies first-hand.
The success of the Mobile Digital Lab would not have been possible without the support of our regional partners across the MINI Digi Hub network, whose collaboration and shared commitment to digital inclusion and innovation have helped extend the reach and impact of the project throughout the region. We are also grateful for the support of the EBR – East Border Region whose coordination has helped connect stakeholders and create new opportunities for digital engagement across the border corridor.
Reflecting on the milestone, Aidan Browne, Head of Innovation & Business Development at the Regional Development Centre (RDC) at Dundalk Institute of Technology, said:
“Reaching over 500 participants and delivering more than 35 events across the region is a significant achievement for the Mobile Digital Lab. The project demonstrates the power of bringing innovation directly into communities and making emerging technologies accessible to everyone. We are proud of the impact the MDL has already made and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to support digital inclusion, innovation and skills development across the region.”
Mobile Digital Lab Project Manager Jason McGee says he has had the privilege of seeing first-hand the enthusiasm and curiosity that people bring when given access to new technologies. From school students exploring virtual reality for the first time, to community groups discovering digital tools, to businesses seeking to understand the potential of artificial intelligence, the response has consistently reinforced the importance of making innovation accessible and inclusive.
