Mobilising immersive technology to connect, create and inspire
The Mobile Digital Lab (MDL) is a key part of the Mini Digi Hubs project — an ambitious initiative to revitalise underutilised public buildings by transforming them into five state-of-the-art digital hubs across the region. Each hub is designed around the unique needs of its community, providing space for collaboration, creativity and digital innovation.
Working in tandem with these physical hubs, the MDL extends the project’s reach even further. This custom-built, fully mobile unit brings cutting-edge digital technology directly to communities, schools and businesses — ensuring that access to innovation is not limited by geography
Managed by Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), the MDL is equipped with immersive and interactive tools such as VR headsets, high performance laptops, creative production systems, and digital training resources. It acts as a catalyst for digital adoption, delivering training, workshops and live demonstrations in areas including virtual reality, industry applications, education, wellness, creative media and gaming. By combining mobility with advanced technology, the MDL will help drive cross-border collaboration, build digital skills and support local enterprises and communities to embrace the opportunities of the digital economy.
The MDL represents a first-of-its-kind investment in the region, designed to make state-of-the art digital tools accessible to everyone — from students and educators to creative professionals, community groups and businesses. By bringing immersive technology directly to where people live, learn, and work the Mobile Digital Lab is helping to build a more connected, innovative and digitally confident region.
