N-TUTORR - August and September 2024
N-TUTORR updates for August and September 2024
External Review of N-TUTORR
In recent months, an external review of the N-TUTORR project has commenced, facilitated by Sheila MacNeill and Dr. Helen Beetham. This has involved interviews with key stakeholders, in addition to in-person review sessions which focused on people’s experiences of the various streams. All of the DkIT team were involved in at least one of the sessions.
Ongoing Fellowship Success
The N-TUTORR Staff-Student partnership model continues to be a success across the TU/IoT sector. Across DkIT, and following completion of the first set of 10 Fellowship projects, we currently have a further six ongoing with numerous staff and student team members involved in each one (these projects are being led by Dr. Bronagh McGrane, Dr. Peter Ryan, Dr. Sinead Loughran, Dr. Niall Coghlan, Dr. Sinead Kelly, Dr. Martin McHugh, Dr. Caroline Gilleran Stephens, and Dr. Anita Byrne). These projects centre on staff and students working together as partners in innovation and change, and we look forward to sharing the output of their work in due course.

Maze map launched across DkIT
N-TUTORR, in collaboration with several functional areas (Student Services, Estates, Disability Office, Climate and Sustainability Manager) came together to develop a campus navigation platform with MazeMap. This can support students, staff and visitors in finding room locations across our campus, as well as identify accessible routes to locations. In the first three weeks, the platform had almost 8,500 engagements. You can download the MazeMap app, or view the platform here: https://use.mazemap.com/?config=Dkit
Student Champion Update
Delighted to see our seven new student champions engaging at the sports and societies day in September, ensuring the MyDigitalBackpack.ie courses were promoted. Complementing this, and in collaboration with Christian Maas and Angela Magennis, the newly appointed vice N-TUTORR Sustainability champions have developed and designed a survey for all staff and students. In the coming months, these student champions will continue to support the various themes of the N-TUTORR project across DkIT.
Panopto in place
N-TUTORR has introduced the video management system Panopto across the college. This platform provides you with a video recording and publishing tool that lies within Moodle. It provides key accessibility tools for video engagement and use. You can check it out on Moodle, or on your Moodle dashboard find a tutorial module to learn more about its features. We will run staff sessions to assist in the near future. Thanks to Gareth Morgan, Orla Hughes, Dr. Gerry Gallagher and Eugene Stewart for their ongoing support. Complementing this work has been an N-TUTORR Student Champion, Sanidhya Pandey, who has been creating staff user guides and FAQ documents for Panopto.

DkIT returned its latest metrics for N-TUTORR engagement. Our % staff and student engagement remains one of the highest in the sector. Really well done everyone.
NDLN established
The National Digital Leadership Network (NDLN) is now up and running. This is a new sector wide initiative established by N-TUTORR. Currently, Dr. Ronan Bree sits on the steering board while Dr. Gerry Gallagher is also supporting this initiative locally.
AdvanceHE Fellowships
On the 13th Sept, we hosted Lisa Donaldson so kick-off a session with staff embarking on their AdvanceHE Fellowships. A fun-filled session that got people reflecting - and planning their applications.
N-TUTORR PMO Visit to DkIT
Kieran Mulvihill of the N-TUTORR Programme Management Office visited DkIT in September to explore some of the digital infrastructure that has been installed to date. Great for the team to be able to showcase some of the excellent progress being made locally. Thanks to Tony Richardson, Fergus Byrne of Nortech, and our STO Eugene Stewart.
PSBs - Wexford and ATU
The most recent N-TUTORR Programme Steering board meetings took place in SETU Wexford, and ATU Galway with Dr. Ronan Bree and Dr. Moira Maguire representing DkIT.
N-TUTORR EDI national masterclass
Dr Martin McHugh represented DkIT on a national N-TUTORR masterclass in EDI, with a lightning talk entitled “Promoting Inclusivity in First Year Computing Courses”. Here, he outlined work completed as part of his N-TUTORR Fellowship project, carried out with student partners Sanidhya Pandey, Gracie Chaudhary, and Mariella Machuca. An excellent talk which received numerous positive comments in the ‘chat’.
Showcase Plans
November 26th is the date for the N-TUTORR showcase event, being held in Dublin’s convention centre. Plans are currently being finalised for what will be a fantastic day. Ciara O’Shea represents DkIT on the organising committee. We hope to have a large contingent from DkIT present, including some of our student champions, and staff and student fellowship team members.
As always, thanks to everyone across DkIT for their ongoing and positive support of the N-TUTORR project.
