A ‘Headstart’ to a Brighter Future

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) recently hosted a wonderful event on campus which saw 22 ‘Headstart’ students graduate, who all live in Dundalk, Drogheda and surrounds.

The Headstart programme’s aim is to support those with an interest in pursuing Higher Education and comprises of a 9- week exploration of study skills, including, academic writing, presentation skills, group work, time management, learning to learn, career guidance and assignment feedback.

This fantastic educational initiative is run by DkIT in conjunction with Louth Local Development and its purpose is to enable students to remove blocks and ease access for them into Higher Education. The Institute would like to extend a huge thank you to all in Louth Local Development who collaborate with them to make this wonderful programme happen. DkIT hold this programme very dear to their heart as enabling and supporting community education is embedded in the Institute’s DNA.

Bruno, who graduated on the day remarked

"This course has impacted me so immensely, it has even transformed my personal and family life for the better. I thank all those involved in organising the course and the friendship I received from the lecturers I met during it”.

DkIT are thrilled to report that previous graduates of this course have continued their educational journey and are currently in all 4 years of their DkIT Degrees including programmes such as Social Care, Community Youth Work, Arts, Audio & Music Production, Creative Media, Hospitality Management, General Nursing and Mental Health Nursing.
