DkIT’s Quest to Help Find Irelands Young Engineers Superstars
Lecturers from Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) were absolutely delighted to visit St. Oliver’s National School in Drogheda on a quest to find the next generation of Engineers.
Gareth Kelly, lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering, visited St Oliver’s 3rd class to help them take part in Engineers Ireland Young Engineers Award. The competition encourages 3rd and 4th class pupils and their teachers to explore the world of engineering by developing a project that would help improve their local community.

The students, with Gareth’s help designed products that could potentially make the world a better place. They devised the product, refined the design and built a prototype. These designs and prototypes will go through to the national Engineers Ireland Young Engineers Competition where entries from all over the country will be judged by a team of professional engineers and the winners will be announced in the new year.
This is just one of the many outreach programs where DkIT staff share their time and knowledge to help students in both primary and secondary learn more about the important work carried out by STEM professionals who have graduated from the institute.
