H₂O Heroes: Journey of a Drop - A Sensory-Friendly Water Adventure
Discover the wonderful world of water in a way that works for you
Join H₂O Heroes at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) for a special sensory-friendly edition of our immersive Journey of a Drop experience, created as part of Science Week 2026. This relaxed, interactive event invites families, adults and curious minds of all ages to discover the incredible journey of water, from the tiniest molecule to our rivers, lakes and oceans. Designed with neurodivergent and sensory-sensitive visitors in mind, this session will offer a calmer environment, reduced visitor numbers and opportunities to explore at your own pace.
Your Journey Begins with a Water Passport
- When you arrive, you will receive your very own Water Passport to guide you through a series of interactive discovery rooms. Travel from molecule to ocean, discovering the fascinating science of water along the way. There will be lots to see, explore and experience, with opportunities to take breaks or spend more time at activities that interest you.
What Will You Discover?
- Explore the Science of Water: Discover what makes water so special through hands-on experiments and interactive activities. Meet our friendly H₂O Heroes scientists, ask questions and explore science in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
- Discover Life in Our Rivers and Lakes: Explore the fascinating creatures and habitats found in freshwater environments. Learn about the importance of healthy rivers and lakes and how we are all connected through water.
- Experience Virtual Reality (Over 16): Discover water from a different perspective through an optional virtual reality (VR) experience. Visitors (age 16+) can choose whether they would like to take part. There is no pressure to try every activity.
- Add Your Drop, Become Part of the Art: Your journey finishes at our collaborative art installation, developed with visual artist Michelle Boyle. Building on artwork created by children during H₂O Heroes summer camps, this installation celebrates our connection to water, nature and each other. You're invited to Add Your Drop by contributing a creative message or personal pledge to help protect our water environments. Every contribution matters, and together we can make a ripple of positive change!
