Course Overview

This module aims to develop learners' understanding of the key principles and practical techniques associated with the Strength and Conditioning specialism. Learners will gain an advanced knowledge of some of the practical and theoretical concepts used to optimise physical performance in a sports performance environment.

Understanding the Industry

The strength and conditioning industry is a growing industry which focuses on improving physical performance and reducing the risk of injury through specific design-based programmes.  Focus here is on attributes such as strength, power, speed and endurance to ensure optimal sports performance.

Career Opportunities

The course provides a starting point for a career in areas such as:

  • Strength and conditioning coach
  • Personal Trainer
  • Fitness Manager
  • Sports Club Strength and Conditioning Coach

Education Progression

Graduates who successfully complete this module may be eligible for an exemption on specific programmes within this academic area of study.

This programme is funded through the South East Cross Border Alliance (SECBA) project, supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the standard academic entry requirements but have significant relevant experience (certified and/or experiential) may apply to access this programme via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. Learn more about RPL at DkIT

Elective Module options will only run subject to student numbers. The relevant Department will determine the viability of each elective module option proceeding depending on the number of students who choose that option. Students will be offered alternative elective modules on their programme should their preferred elective option not be proceeding. Award Options for Common Entry Programmes: The relevant Department will determine the viability of each award option proceeding depending on the number of students who choose either option. If the numbers for one of the Award options exceed available places, students for this option will be selected based on Academic Merit (highest grades).
