Course Overview
This is a 10-credit level 6 module aimed at those who wish to develop introductory-level Python Programming skills. No prior programming experience is required.
On completion of this module, participants should be capable of using a problem-solving approach to design, build and test solutions to fundamental programming problems. Areas of study will include data types and structures; functions, abstraction, and modularity; reading and writing from files using library classes; GUI interfaces, and the design, build and testing of programming solutions using appropriate fundamental programming constructs.

Course Delivery and Modules
This single module is delivered over 2 semesters.
Weekly classes will be delivered in a live synchronous format, 2 evenings per week, typically Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 9pm. Attendance/participation in live classes will be important to master the material. Live online classes will be support by additional asynchronous activity (videos/ resources and tasks) which participants complete in their own time over scheduled periods.
COMP I8045 - Introduction to Programming (10 credits):
This module will introduce participants to the fundamentals of programming - in python. No prior programming experience is required. Participants will build key programming competency and will be capable of using a problem-solving approach to design, build and test solutions to fundamental programming problems.

This programme is funded through the South East Cross Border Alliance (SECBA) project, supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Standard Entry Requirements
DkIT standard entry requirements onto this level 6 module are:
- Five Grades at O6 or H7 in Leaving Certificate
- AND Mathematics Grade F2, O6 or H7
- AND English Grade O6 or H7
- OR Irish Grade O6 or H7
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants who do not meet the standard academic entry requirements but have significant relevant experience (certified and/or experiential) may apply to access this programme via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route. Learn more about RPL at DkIT
