School of Business & Humanities Micro-Credentials
The School of Business and Humanities at DkIT is delighted to offer a range of microcredential short courses, where you can now study a select number of individual modules which are components of longer programmes.
Why short courses
Did you know that you can attend DkIT and study individual modules (micro-credentials) without having to commit to a full-time multi-year course? It is possible to study individual modules which are components of longer programmes.
Each module (micro-credential) is a stand-alone 'mini-course' which will earn you academic credits following successful completion of any associated coursework and or exams.
It is possible to and accumulate those credits over time, towards a nationally recognised award such as a Higher Certificate or even a full Degree.
Now Enrolling for September 2025 Intake.

Course Description | In the sixteenth-century, the English government began a process of imperial expansion that would give rise to colonisation in distant locations such as the Americas and India. It was, however, much closer to home that the first step in this imperial expansion took place. From the late 1540s, the English government initiated a process of settlement in Ireland, which gave rise to both government-sponsored and private plantations throughout the country. These plantations became part of three centuries of political and religious upheaval, during which the country was transformed from a traditional Gaelic landscape to one united with England, Scotland and Wales under the Act of Union. This course aims to chart this transition by exploring this period chronologically. Throughout the course, we will continue to build upon our knowledge of the social history of Ireland, as we learn about two major forces in shaping Irish society; religion and land. |
