“Support from staff and my family really helped me to complete my studies. Everyone was so friendly and so inviting, and all my friends in the course were all in the same boat."
Majella is manager of Lios na nÓg Childcare setting in Dundalk and has previously studied the part-time BA in Applied Early Childhood Studies followed by the BA (Hons) in Leadership and Management for the Early Years Sector.
I came into Early Years late in life and started off as a compliance officer and I knew if I wanted to progress into Management, then I would need my degree.
Siobhán did have her doubts about returning to education, and whether she could do it.
Support from staff and my family really helped me to complete my studies. Everyone was so friendly and so inviting, and all my friends in the course were all in the same boat.
Siobhán found that her time was split differently when studying for her course.
Taking the time that works best for you is key. For me it was late at night when the children had gone to bed. the library facilities in DkIT were excellent, and helped me to study well.
Siobhán has encouraged her staff to complete the Early Years courses at DkIT.
I have 3 staff members who have followed me in their studies. It's amazing to see the confidence they have after studying. I feel that I am a professional in my sector now and I would encourage anyone in the Early Years sector to do the same.
