"Nowadays you require that extra level of education to compete in industry, so that was my driving force behind continuing my education."
Kate, originally from Mallow, Co Cork, but now living in Co Down, had originally completed a Level 6 in Animal Health and then went to St John's in Cork to get a Level 6 in Veterinary Nursing. Following this she did a Level 7 in Veterinary Nursing with Edinburgh Napier University. After working for six years in practice, Kate wanted to come back to get her Level 8 Honours dgeree and enrolled in the Add-On in Advanced Veterinary Nursing at DkIT.
I wanted to continue on my education so I could break into the agricultural sector. I wanted more options than just working in clinical practice. The Level 9 in Agricultural Biotechnology at DkIT was the next natural step for me.
Kate says that the lecturers were very helpful, and the mixture between new graduates and experienced returners on the Level 8 Add-On, made it a great class.
A lot of the same lecturers from Veterinary Nursing would also teach on the Agricultural Biotechnology Postgraduate course. I hope this qualification will help me get into different elements of the Agriculture sector. The options are endless.
